Social Work Reading Group - See how Paul Gibbons and the first Social Work Reading Group got on
Here at the centre we are encouraged to report a somewhat different initiative - a social work reading group. Run rather on the lines of the book groups which many of us belong to, this will meet once a month to discuss professional books, chapters and journal articles relevant to reflective social work practice. It is being organised by one of our members, Paul Gibbons, under the auspices of the Centre.
Having held their first reading group on the 20th March, Paul shared that they discussed a chapter from Mattinson and Sinclare’s ‘Mate and Stalemate’ (1979). The reading sparked discussion, brought experience from the front line and opened up debate on the nature of Social Work here in the U.K and abroad. ‘A lovely way to see in World Social Work day!’
Continuing the success of the first meeting, the group have chosen a chapter from ‘The Unconscious at Work’ for next month’s reading group, which will be held on;
Wednesday 18th April 7.00 to 9.00 p.m. The Alma, Springfield Road, Windsor SL4 3PP.
